The Scuola Normale Superiore (better known in Italy as “la Normale”) is a higher education institution based in Pisa and Florence. It carries out doctoral and postdoctoral training activities.
The Scuola Normale Superiore participates in the ARTES 4.0 High Specialization Competence Center, with its Academic Class of Sciences (a Department of Excellence funded by MIUR).
In particular, the “macro-node’s” scientific thematic areas concern the following enabling technologies:
• Big Data and Analytics: mathematics for finance, statistical data analysis, mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, high-performance scientific computing and methods for analyzing large-scale graphs and networks;
• Additive Manufacturing: innovative materials, functional composite materials for products and processes;
• Advanced Manufacturing Solutions: nanotechnology and innovative nanostructured materials, composite materials, functional coatings;
• Augmented Reality: development of augmented reality applications on Head Up Displays;
• Simulation: numerical analysis and development of efficient numerical algorithms to solve large-dimensionality problems in the physical, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences, using techniques ranging from quantum mechanics to hybrid quantum-mechanical/classical methods or purely classical methods.
